Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive HistoryThis past weekend my wife, youngest daughter and I visited the “Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History” in Kennesaw, Georgia. I’ll admit right off the bat, I’m a history nut, so I knew beforehand I was going to enjoy the visit. What surprised me was how enjoyable it was for the rest of the family and how we felt as if we were almost taking a trip back in time.

The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History have put together three impressive permanent collections and in addition is also a member of the prestigious Smithsonian Affiliations Program.

The Museum offered a wide range of exhibits, including:

  • A glimpse into the daily lives of soldiers during the Civil War
  • A reproduction of a turn-of-the-century locomotive factory (and)
  • An exciting depiction of the Civil War’s Great Locomotive Chase

Additionally, as a member of the Smithsonian Affiliations Program, the Museum maintains a special gallery that features traveling exhibits from the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) as well as other sources and will be changed every few months.
